Queer Porto 2 – International Film Festival, 5-9 October

Back by popular demand! The second edition of Queer Porto International Film Festival returns with a full program of new films, a retrospective of films attributed New Queer Cinema, a master class and more. Queer Porto 2 takes place 5-9 October, at Teatro Municipal Rivoli, Maus Hábitos, malavoadora.porto and Wrong Weather.

Opneing the festival on 5 October will be the Lionel Baier film La Vanité. Closing the festival on 8 October is the highly-anticipated Porto debut of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.

Films in Official Competition include:

Tickled –  David Farrier, Dylan Reeve (New Zealand)
Vanité, La – Lionel Baier (Switzerland/France)

A very special section for this year’s festival is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of American essayist B. Ruby Rich’s article in Sight & Sound, in which the author coined the term “New Queer Cinema”. His theme defined a new cinematic language that emerged in the 1990s, responsible for changing the paradigm of the representation of queer themes in film.

Also scheduled for this year, Director Tom Kalin, will hold a master class on The Evolution of New Queer Cinema at malavoadora.porto.
